Your vehicle’s braking system is one of its most important safety systems. Whether you are commuting around town, travelling on the highway or dealing with Tasmania’s changing road conditions, properly maintained brakes help you slow down and stop safely when you need them.

Knowing the warning signs of brake problems can help you address wear or faults before they develop into more expensive repairs. A spongy or soft brake pedal, brake pedal pulsation, squeaking, grinding or a brake warning light on the dashboard should all be treated as reasons to have your braking system inspected. What Are the Signs Your Brakes Need Attention? Brake components naturally wear through normal driving, but the rate of wear can vary depending on your vehicle, driving conditions and how often you use the brakes. Some common signs include: Squealing or squeaking: May indicate worn brake pads or other brake component issues. Grinding: Can occur when brake pads have worn excessively and should be investigated promptly. A spongy brake pedal: May indicate air or moisture in the brake fluid, a hydraulic issue or another fault requiring inspection. Pulsation or vibration: A brake pedal or steering wheel that vibrates during braking can be associated with uneven brake rotor wear or other problems. Pulling when braking: May indicate uneven braking performance, a sticking caliper or another issue. Brake warning light: Should never be ignored, as it can indicate a problem within the braking system. If you notice a change in how your vehicle brakes, Launnie Automotive can inspect the system and identify whether maintenance, replacement parts or further repairs are required. Why Is Regular Brake Maintenance Important? Brake maintenance is about more than replacing brake pads when they become worn. A professional inspection can assess the condition of the brake pads, rotors, calipers, brake fluid and other components that contribute to safe and consistent braking.

Brake fluid also requires attention. Over time, it can absorb moisture, which can affect braking performance and contribute to corrosion within the hydraulic system. Brake fluid should be checked and replaced according to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations or when testing indicates it is required.

At Launnie Automotive, our brake services include brake pad replacement, brake rotor resurfacing and replacement, brake fluid flushes and replacement, brake caliper servicing and brake inspections. Our technicians can assess the braking system and recommend the appropriate work based on the vehicle's condition rather than replacing components unnecessarily.

As a Repco Authorised Service centre, Launnie Automotive also provides a Nationwide Warranty covering eligible services for up to 12 months or 20,000 kilometres, whichever occurs first, providing additional peace of mind when you have your vehicle serviced at our workshop. Brake Maintenance FAQs How often should I have my brakes inspected? Brake inspections should form part of your regular vehicle servicing, with the manufacturer's maintenance schedule providing the best guide. An inspection is also recommended whenever you notice changes in braking performance or unusual noises. How long do brake pads normally last? There is no fixed lifespan for brake pads. Their service life depends on factors such as driving style, traffic conditions, vehicle weight and the type of brake pad fitted. A technician can measure pad thickness and assess their remaining service life. Is it safe to drive if my brakes are squeaking? A light squeak does not always mean your brakes are unsafe, but persistent or worsening noise should be checked. Grinding, reduced braking performance, pulling or a warning light should be treated more urgently. Why does my brake pedal feel spongy? A soft or spongy pedal can be caused by air or moisture in the brake fluid, a hydraulic system problem or another brake fault. Because braking performance can be affected, it should be inspected rather than ignored. Do brake rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads? Not necessarily. Brake rotors can sometimes be resurfaced if they meet the manufacturer's specifications and are otherwise suitable for continued use. If they are excessively worn, damaged or below the permitted thickness, replacement may be required. Book a Brake Inspection in Invermay Don't wait for a brake problem to become a safety concern. New Car Service in Invermay

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Launnie Automotive in Invermay, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Launnie Automotive, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Launnie Automotive for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.
